Universal Salvation: Jesus, the Firstborn over all creation Part One
Psalm 36:9 says: "For with You is the fountain of life;…"
If you are looking for the fountain of life, look no further - you have found it. It is with God. God is the Source of all life. So if He is the Source of all life, there must have been a time when He was alone; there had to be.
"So what we would really like to know is, who was the very first person created by God?"
At Colossians 1:15, it says this: "He (Jesus) is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation." The Amplified Version says: "…He is the Firstborn of all creation." The New American Standard Version says: "…the first-born of all creation." The Greek word there for "firstborn" is prototokos, from protos - first, and tikto - to bring forth.
There is no question that Jesus was the first to be brought forth of all creation. This is not speaking of God playing the part of a son; this is speaking of the first created being. Not a pretend being, an actual created being. The very first, and the only one that God Himself personally created. This very first created being was the pioneer of life, a trail-blazer. Acts 3:15 (Moffatt Translation) says: "and you killed the pioneer of Life…"
"And then what? "
Well, look. Colossians 1:16: "For by Him (Jesus) all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him." Hebrews 1:1,2 tells us this: "God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds". John chapter 1, speaking of Jesus as the Word, says this in verse 3: "All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. " God brought forth Jesus. All other things were brought about through Jesus.
Before all else, God trained His Son to be the Word, who would one day have the responsibility to express God's own thinking. And to visibly show God to the world. At John 14:9, Jesus said: "…He who has seen Me has seen the Father…"
John 1:1 says: "In the beginning (God had no beginning) was the Word, (Jesus, trained in the nature of God and how to express that nature) and the Word was with God, (in heaven, waiting to prove God's nature and to save the world) And the Word (the trained Jesus) was God (in the respect that He and His Father were one. Not in person, but in nature)."
"Yes, but John 10:30, which says 'I and My Father are one,' proves that God and Jesus are the same person, does it not?"
Not at all. The Greek word for "one" there, is hen (heis-masculine, mia-feminine, hen-neuter). And at John 10:30, "one" is neuter. The masculine heis would have meant one person. When the neuter is used, it means "one in essence or nature." Remember, Jesus spoke a form of Aramaic, and the quote in Aramaic means, "I and My Father agree."
At John 17:22 it says this: "…that they may be one just as We are one." Both "one's" in that sentence are the neuter hen, showing that the disciples and God were to be one in nature, and not the same person. Exactly the same as John 10:30.
If you read John 1:2, it says: "He (the Word) was in the beginning with God. "
Can you see that? He was with God. That is because Jesus lived with His Father in heaven before He came to the earth.
Look at John 17:5: "And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was."
Can you see what that says again? "…with the glory which I had with You (when?) before the world was." Jesus lived with His Father in heaven, before the world was.
The difficulty here is that if Jesus is personally God, why is God playing different roles, when there is no one around? He is actually acting different parts before the creation of the world. For what reason? Did He need the practice?
And what a cast. You have the Father who is played by God, then you have the Son, also played by God. Then you have the Holy Spirit, also played by God. So that when Jesus prays to the Father, He is, in actual fact, talking to Himself. Do you not find that story book, fairy tale? Would it not be far easier to believe what the scriptures say about Jesus, that He is simply the Son of God? An individual in His own right, who, before He came to live as a human on the earth, lived with His Father in heaven, going into the family business of creating perfection, and actually earning it for all.
So God has the fountain of life.
"Just our luck. One Person has it. How on earth, then, can we take hold of it? What is this Person like? What is it going to cost?"
"Come on, nobody gives anything away for nothing. He could make a fortune."
There is only one thing wrong with that. He does not need a fortune. He already has every thing that He needs. Love of neighbour means that He wants to share all that He has with you. With everyone. He has enough for all.
The fountain of life is free. Revelation 22:17 says: "…Whoever desires, (this requires a will with action) let him take the water of life freely." It is a free gift, a favour from God, part of His grace.
"How can I take hold of this free gift? Show me the way."
Jesus said, "I am the way…"
And Revelation 7:17 says: "for the Lamb (Jesus) who is in the midst of the throne will shepherd them and lead them to living fountains of waters." NU-text and M-text read, "to fountains of waters of life. "
It is Jesus our Shepherd, our Rescuer, our Saviour, who will show us the way.
There is no other way to drink of the fountain of life. Jesus is the only way to it. It says at Acts 4:12: "Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved."
Thanks to God's grace, not only do we have the free gift of eternal life, but also, He sent someone to show us how to take hold of it. And there is only one thing that guarantees Universal Salvation for all: the fact that Jesus is a created being, and has already attained to perfection. God has already done it. Jesus has already drunk of the water of life. And guess what? It works. He is now perfect. He was the pioneer of life. He was the pioneer of perfection for all created beings. Not God - God was already perfect.
His mission is to lead everyone to the fountain of life and perfection, so that one day our Father will be all in all. And you will still be you, the person.
"Is that the only scripture which speaks of Jesus as being created? "
